Who wants to be normal anyway?

Each individual in the world has been gifted a genius in order to make your unique difference in the world.  Doesn’t it follow that being too “normal” is going to get in the way of that?

Behaving in a normal, average way means doing things the same as everybody else.  Because you have something special that you are uniquely equipped to do, you need to be a bit different.

Go on, get out there and let your specialness shine!

Meaningful work

The work that you’re here on the planet to carry out is something that’s running in your veins. You can’t help but think about it, pretty much all the time. Even in the shower – probably especially in the shower, and other similar places, too!

I often find it’s when I’m focused on simple, mundane tasks like showering (etc) that I get my best insights into how to most effectively apply my genius.

If the work that you’re currently doing doesn’t absorb you to that extent, then you are making your life so much harder than you need to – when you’re doing what comes naturally, your working life becomes one of ease and flow.

It’s your life – live it on purpose

Steve Jobs said “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life.”  It’s all too easy to get side-tracked into doing the things that you think other people expect of you. And that’s not where you do your best work.  If your work isn’t fully aligned with your being, not only is it going to be harder than it needs to be, it’s also going to be a waste of your precious time in this reality.

So I invite you to take some time today, even if it’s as you travel home from your work this afternoon, to think about whose choice it really was to do the work you are currently doing.

Your true genius

I often ask my clients: “If you weren’t so busy trying to be who you think you should be, who could you show up as in the world? And what could you achieve?”

The trouble with trying to be someone is that it’s an effort. And, despite the experience you’ve managed to create for yourself so far, your work is not supposed to be an effort. It may require some energy, but when it starts feeling like an effort, it’s probably because you are making it hard work for yourself by trying to be someone other than who you truly Be.

When you make the choice to show up in your true genius, that’s when the world gets to see your full magic – and don’t you deserve to have some magic in your world?

You can stop pretending now!

We have developed a way of viewing the world of work that has left us thinking that you’re supposed to show up as someone different when you walk in the office door. Maybe the person you pretended to be when you went for the interview?

The good news is, you don’t have to carry on pretending that you are who your boss or clients think they want you to be. What if they intuitively saw through your pretence, and they unconsciously picked the person they knew they would find a joy to work with – the real you?

There’s a real easy way to find that out 😊

Joyfully aligned …

When what you do aligns with who you are, and you make that more important than what other people think about you, that’s when your work starts becoming joyful.  And the weird thing is, it’s also when other people start to see the joy in working with you!

And the best thing of all is that it’s also when you start to produce far better results – and it feels effortless. A very successful entrepreneur told me recently that it was when he stopped focusing on what other people think of him, that his business took off. He told me “I think I found minimalism at just the wrong time.  Right when I started to make the money to get all the stuff I don’t want anymore!”

The key to success

People say that happiness is the key to success, not the other way around.  And it’s true – very few people manage to achieve the success they pursue, when they find their work a chore. You can’t struggle your way to happiness, it simply doesn’t work that way.

If anything, when you choose happiness, that stops work being a struggle. So the trick is to either do what you love, or you can make a choice to love what you do. Either will work, and there are all sorts of techniques that can help with both.

As I say…

Love what you do for a living, make a great living doing what you love!

If you’re struggling to work out how to make a living from something you love doing, you can learn how to love something you can make a living doing. Feel free to book a call and ask how, it’s actually not that hard!
