The importance of a strategy for living your genius is that it will stop you wasting a whole load of time, money, energy, and resources on the wrong programs for you.

“Step away from the credit card, please!”

This post is really all about restraint. Once you get into the third step of the three steps to genius, that is to step out and take your genius out into the world, it can be very tempting to just dive in.

So you’ve done the first two steps:

  • Step 1: Step Up and own up to even having a Genius
  • Step 2: Step Into your Genius, truly understand it, embody it, make it part of your being, own it

And now you’re ready for …

  • Step 3: Step Out and take that Genius, that being to the world.

And here’s the thing …

When you’ve done all that work, it can be really exciting. You know who you are, you know what you’re great at, and you know who you want to be working with. And all you want to do is get it out there, as soon as you can.

So you think: “Facebook ads, I’ll do Facebook ads, yes, that’s a great idea!” Or some other programme that flashed up on your Facebook feed the moment you started thinking about how to get your Genius out there.

Stop! Please don’t start spending money straight away.

Massive cash burn

Facebook Ads are fantastic for really getting micro-targeted niches and getting your spot on message out to those targeted niches. And you can do retargeting and really get very, very tight on your niche, whilst also expand your reach. So they’re fantastic ways to get your message out there. Once your message is right.

Otherwise, they can be a massive cash burn, trust me, I have spent hundreds of pounds that didn’t generate results. Obviously, I’ve spent money that did generate results too, but that money that didn’t generate results was because I did it wrong. I did it too fast, I leaped in. I bought into the flashy advert that promised me something that, yes, it could have happened, but there was stuff that was missing before I did it.

So my first thing to say to you is, however important is to get your stuff out there, start slowly, make sure you’ve got the right strategy for living your genius in place first. Because only when you really get the strategy right is it time to start throwing some money at it. Then, by all means throw some money at it. But not until you know it’s going to work.

The right strategy for living your genius

The other thing is, watch out for those outlandish claims that you’ll see all over Facebook and all over the internet. You know, I’ll take you from a standing start to a six-figure business. In just one year, six months. I’ve even seen I’ve seen people claim they can get you to six figures in three months. And of course, with the right strategy, that may be possible, don’t get me wrong.

The people making such claims can always point to clients of theirs that they’ve worked with, who were able to go from very little to these six-figure businesses. So I’m not pooh-poohing the entire industry. But what I am saying is, they are not the norm.  It’s probably not even an 80/20, more likely, I would think it’s more like 5/95 of the people who pay those pretty large sums, four-figure, even five figures sums, who get that result. Because the rest are just not ready.

And unfortunately, some of the people who promote these things aren’t very good at figuring out who’s ready and who’s not. So they’ll take your four-figure sum, and they’ll say there’s the material, go use it. And if you’re not ready to use it, you’re not going to get the results.

So don’t rush in. Take your time. Talk to people who’ve been through the courses.  Talk to people who’ve been through the courses and it hasn’t worked and figure out why it didn’t work for them.

And once you decide on your particular strategy for living your genius, you then need to commit to complete that one path. Because that’s the other mistake that people make, you buy loads of different courses all at the same time. And because you haven’t got time to do all of them properly, you’re not going to get results from any of them.

A strategy for living your Genius takes time

The big thing about success is, it’s very rarely overnight. Time is a major factor in success. Take a look at this diagram.

3 Steps to Genius, 3 Steps to a strategy for living your genius

At point one, you start off really quite slow, and not getting very much in the way of progress. There’s a lot of preparation work to do. But after a while, it starts to build up (point two). And only at the very end does it really grow (point 3).  There’s a three-stage process going on, very similar to the Three Steps to Genius.

You only get the massive results when you’ve done the preparatory work, and then you’re starting from what may be only quite a low base, but it is a base to build from. And so many courses will promise you from a zero base, you will get to the six figures.  Genuinely, that’s unlikely, unless you’re really quite fortunate.

Results build on preparation

What’s more likely is the people who have come into those courses seemingly at Ground Zero, have actually done an awful lot of the preparation work. And they’re already at that border of Step Into and Step Out, and they’re ready to go.  They then do all the stuff in the courses. Because again, I’m not saying the courses don’t work, I’m just saying you’ve got to be ready for them.

So then you go through the program, you do all the stuff, because you’re prepared to do the stuff and – whoosh – off you go! So your six-figure business is then absolutely possible. Personally, I’m not especially interested in a six-figure business, high fives is fine for me. I’m not ambitious to be perfectly honest.

And that’s important for me to realise, because it informs who I’m going to work with and what programmes are going to be right for me. I’m not going to gel with someone who expects me to shoot from zero to six figures in three months!

Test and measure your strategy for living in Genius

Before you start spending loads of money on any marketing activity, test and measure. Try something, see if it works. If it does, great, do some more of it.  Try a little bit of ad spend on Facebook. See if that creates the results you want. If it does, that’s excellent ramp it up.

Somebody I know asked his mastermind group “How do I grow my training business?” And they asked, “Well, how are you getting the customers now?” He said, “Well, Facebook ads are working quite well. I’m spending about £300 on Facebook ads and I’m getting a client worth £3000.”  So a 10 to 1 return on the money he was spending. And they just looked at each other scratched their heads and said: “Well do more Facebook ads then!”

You see throwing loads of money at Facebook absolutely works. But only once you’ve done the test and measure and you’re doing the focused activity.  Not just chucking money at the wall and hoping something will stick, but putting that money into the activities, the adverts, and the micro-niches that are working. The ones that you know are going to create revenue for you, and allow you to get your message further into the world.

So anything you consider spending money on anything to get your Genius out into the world, make sure you’re prepared for it, and test and measure once you start going.  Without a strategy for living your Genius, your marketing will be haphazard, at best. At worst, it will be a complete and utter waste of time, money, energy, and resources.

You have so much to share with the world, please take your time to make sure the world gets to enjoy it.
